In Memoriam

John Randle

It is with great sadness that we announce that John Randle passed away on Saturday evening, November 6th after his  long battle with cancer.  John was a friend to many members at the Club, a wonderful bowler and team member, and a great supporter of NLBC tournaments and activities.  John served as treasurer for several years, he also worked on the games committee, and became games chair in the 2019/2020 season.   John will be greatly missed.

Eric Spalding

It is with much sadness we announce that Eric Spalding passed away at the end of summer.  Eric had not been a member at the club for the past few years, as he struggled with a number of illnesses, but he had been an active member for many years prior.  He was a great supporter to the games committee as he kept us supplied with scoring sheets before we went computerized for all of the clubs tournaments and name tags for the roster board.  Eric will also be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

David Ball

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Ball on Christmas Day, 2020.  More details to follow.

David was a longtime member of Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club and was a very well respected bowler and umpire.  He will be very much missed by all who knew him.  Our sincerest condolences to Diane, his wife who is also a member of our Club.

Emily Lawson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emily Lawson (nee Davis) on December 3, 2020.  Emily passed away peacefully at 81 years of age in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.  She was surrounded by her loving gamily and will be greatly missed.  Emily was born in Durham, England on January 5th, 1939.  The Lawson family emigrated to Canada in 1970, residing in Grande Cache, Alberta before moving to Cedar, BC in 1975.  Emily is survived by her daughter Judith (Graham) her sons Steve (JoAnn) and Brad (Karen), her grandsons Brandon and Sean, and her sisters Nora (Stan) and Kathleen (Harry) in England.  She was predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and George, her brother Geoffrey, and her husband Brian.  Emily enjoyed quilting and reading, and was an avid follower of tennis and soccer, but she was particularly fond of lawn bowling.  As a well-loved member of the Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club, Emily became an accomplished bowler and made many friends through her involvement in the sport.

Mildred (Mim) Lee

Many of our longtime bowlers will remember Mim.  She was very active in the community and most passionate about lawn bowling. She was 98 when she passed on October 2nd, 2020 and once said she had many happy years playing in tournaments and making good friends at our club.  Mim will be missed by all who knew her.
